Maximo, the robotics subsidiary of AES, has finished installing 100 MW of utility‑scale solar modules at the Bellefield complex in Kern County, California, marking the largest robotic solar deployment to date.

Bellefield is part of a broader 1,000‑MW solar and 1,000‑MW/4,000‑MWh battery project that will supply a 15‑year power purchase agreement with Amazon, positioning the site as a key renewable asset for data‑center power needs.

The milestone demonstrates Maximo’s ability to accelerate installation speed and cut labor costs, with the technology capable of placing modules at a rate exceeding one per minute—roughly double the output of traditional crews. This efficiency supports AES’s strategy to exit coal by 2025 and to scale renewable capacity to 25–30 GW by 2027, meeting the growing demand from AI and data‑center customers.

Chris Shelton, President of Maximo, said, "Reaching 100 MW at a single site is an important milestone for Maximo and for the role robotics can play in solar construction. It demonstrates that intelligent field robotics can deliver consistent results at utility scale. As solar deployment continues to accelerate globally, technologies that improve installation speed, quality and reliability will become increasingly important."

AES President and CEO Andrés Gluski added, "We are facing unprecedented increases in demand, driven in large part by the rise of AI and data centers, and innovations like these will be fundamental for accelerating our ability to bring projects online faster and with greater efficiency."

By leveraging robotics, AES can reduce construction timelines, lower labor costs, and deliver projects more reliably, strengthening its position as a preferred partner for AI‑driven energy demand and reinforcing its commitment to a clean‑energy future.
